PA QDMA First Annual Jamboree

 

 The Pennsylvania chapter of the Quality Deer Management Association will hold the first annual Jamboree July 16 at the Beaver Springs fairgrounds on Route 522. The event  features educational seminars, equipment demonstrations, and vendors, followed by a casual pig roast banquet in the evening. This educational event is also open to the general public.

 

PA QDMA Seminars and Pig Roast Jamboree

            BEAVER SPRINGS – The Pennsylvania chapter of the Quality Deer Management Association (PA QDMA) will hold the first annual Jamboree in July featuring seminars, equipment demonstrations, and vendors, followed by a casual pig roast banquet in the evening. This educational event is open to QDMA members as well as the general public.

            The Jamboree is scheduled for Saturday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Beaver Springs at the fairgrounds on Route 522.

            Admission to the day's educational seminars and demonstrations is free as well as parking.

            A pig roast casual banquet begins at 6 p.m. and tickets must be purchased in advance by July 8. A single ticket is $20, couple $35, and tickets for children 15 and under are $10 each.             During the banquet, there will be door prizes, raffles, silent and live auctions.

            The keynote speaker is Brian Murphy, wildlife biologist and QDMA's executive director. Murphy will give a presentation on New Research in Whitetail Genetics, Antlers Growth & Communications.

Seminars include Aging Whitetail on the Hoof by QDMA Northeast Regional Director and wildlife biologist Kip Adams; Food Plots and Habitat Management by PA QDMA president Steve Trupe of Trupe's Quality Hunting and Wildlife Management in Shinglehouse; PA Buck Study: What we've learned through 3 Years by Eric Long, Penn State University graduate student; Results of the Infrared Deer Surveys of the State Forests by Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry wildlife specialist Merlin Benner.

Where did the Deer go in 2004? This will be a panel question and answer session with Murphy, Adams, Trupe, Benner, and Dr. Christopher Rosenberry from the PA Game Commission.

            QDMA Branches will benefit from the seminars as Branch members experienced in specific fields give informative presentations to fellow Branch members. Each Branch throughout the state has the opportunity to register two individuals to attend and benefit from the following presentations.

Outdoor writer Charles Burchfield will give a presentation about how to get positive press coverage.

Webmaster John Crerand will give an overview on website development and design. Crerand is a director of the Pike County Branch of QDMA.

David Wilcox will provide information for successful banquets and fundraising activities. Wilcox is a member of the Susquehanna Branch of QDMA and the treasurer of the PA QDMA board.

Dan Riley, secretary and treasurer of the North Mountain Branch of QDMA, will give a discussion about soliciting donations. This Branch was recently recognized as the National Branch of the Year.

Steve Homyack, Mike Gerth and Barry Buhay from the Southeast Branch of QDMA will give a session about creating an informational Branch Newsletter.

QDMA will introduce the new QDMA 2005-2006 banquet package sometime during the day.

There will be opportunity throughout the event to visit vendors and collect informational materials. Equipment demonstrations will take place onsite.

Food and beverages will be available but NO alcohol on the fairgrounds.

Camper sites are available for a $5 fee but NO hookups are available.
