FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

QDMA Donation Helps Deer Research

MILFORD – The Pike County Branch of Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) donated $250 toward deer research in Pennsylvania.

Funds donated by the Pike County Branch as well as other QDMA Branches in the state assist with the Pennsylvania Game Commission's antlered buck study now in its second year in partnership with Penn State University.

According to Dr. Bret Wallingford, Game Commission white-tailed deer biologist, 100 percent of the donations support the expense of an additional technician at Penn State needed to assist with telemetry monitoring of bucks in the state's research program.

Last year, capture teams caught 77 juvenile and 45 adult bucks in Armstrong County, and 72 juvenile and 30 adult bucks in Centre County.

The technician would assist with monitoring surviving deer from last year's captures, made more challenging with deer dispersal behavior throughout the area.

QDMA is a non-profit organization, leading advocate of the QDM philosophy, made up of hunters, landowners and concerned area resident volunteers, and is partnered with numerous federal and state wildlife organizations.

Our mission is to promote sustainable high quality white-tailed deer populations, wildlife habitats, and ethical hunting experiences through education, research, and management in partnership with hunters, landowners, natural resource professionals, and the general public.

Public meetings of the Pike County Branch are held the last Friday of each month, unless otherwise advertised, at 7 p.m. in the Pike County Conservation District meeting room on Route 402.

An exception is the Sept. 24 meeting date, which is the second annual Banquet and Sportsmen's Auction & Raffle at Ehrhardt's in Hawley on Lake Wallenpaupack.

Registration begins at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. followed by the auction and raffles.

For more information about the Pike County Branch achievements and activities since organizing in September of 2002, visit our website at www.QDMAPikeCountyPa.com for local information, or the National QDMA website www.qdma.com in Watkinsville, Georgia for national news.
