"I told Cheyenne to shoot and she delivered! " Ron and Cheyenne Tussel
We scouted a few
mornings ahead of the season and we had several birds located. We hit the
woods before light Saturday and owl called. We heard at least ten gobblers,
picked one and went for it. We had three big longbeards coming, but she had
to move the gun to be in position. The lead bird saw the move and started
putting. I kept calling and two other gobblers came in from behind us, went
past us, and then the first three longbeards saw them and raced to them. A
fight ensued and we sat there as they pummeled each other flying up in the air
and whacking each other till they drove the two birds off. The other three,
having seen the movement, would never come closer than 100 yards or so. We
let them move off and back tracked out. Drove to another spot close to home,
and saw two sneaky hens, so I got out and called. We got an answer
immediately and gathered our gear. Unfortunately the gobbler(s) were already
running to us so by the time we got ready I heard their foot steps in the
leaves and knew we blew it. So we waited a bit and called and a bird
gobbled. So we ran 100 yards and set up quickly. I called and a bird
answered. A couple minutes later I could see three gobblers coming up the
power line. When the first one got to twenty yards, I told Cheyenne to shoot
and she delivered the whole load of number 6s right on target. Not one pellet
in the body. She cleaned it and plucked it herself with a little help. She
can't wait for the dinner, and has requested the presence of her grandparents
for the celebration!
JohnMichael and I are
scouting now for this Saturday and he is ready to go!!
